President Trump has announced a three-week extension of the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire following high-level discussions at the White House, signaling a potential path toward a permanent peace treaty.
While the extension aims to stabilize the region and eventually marginalize Hezbollah’s influence, the administration remains in a tense standoff with Iran. Despite a separate truce extension with Tehran, formal peace talks have stalled because the U.S. claims the Iranian leadership is too disorganized to provide a unified proposal.
Consequently, the U.S. is maintaining a strict naval blockade and a heavy military presence in the region, with Trump warning that while he is open to diplomacy, the U.S. military is authorized to use lethal force to protect shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz if provocations continue.
